India is one of the few countries where leprosy still exists, and has the largest
leprosy population in the world. About 500,000 people affected with leprosy live
in various parts of India. We started work in 1995 and are one of the few
missions reaching these people.
One of our missionaries, Shaji Abraham, decided to start work in a leprosy
colony. He chose a leprosy colony in Peeragadi, Delhi, where 75 families live
in a small public place where they have no boarding or lodging. These are
abandoned people and neither the government nor any social organization reach
them with any kind of help. When missionary Shaji went to that colony,
people welcomed him whole-heartedly. He shared the love of Jesus with these people
and many accepted Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord. Soon we started a church
and now about 50 families come to worship here.
Later we were able to build single room houses for each family. We strongly
believe that it is not the food, clothes or shelter that would change their lives,
but the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
After seeing an amazing response from these people, missionary Shaji Abraham
was motivated to start new work in a different
leprosy colony at Shalimarbagh, Delhi. The response from the people were very encouraging
and about 40 people gather there for worship every week.
With the help of other christians we have built a small church. The Lord later
provided financial resources to complete the roof. Now we are praying for financial
support to construct at least 20 houses for these abandoned families.
Missionary Shaji has a burden to reach more colonies in the New Year.
Please support this ministry with your finances and prayers.
